With the football season over, it’s all gone a bit quiet with regards Aston Villa. This always throws me off slightly, as Villa always seem to have some drama or something going on, but this time, it might be a good thing.
I’ve said many a time that I’d love to see a period of time where Villa are stable, and nothing major or crazy seems to happen. These past years have been interesting, to say the least, and we always seem to attract instability. Things might change, but so far this summer, it looks like we’ve got a plan.
I’m team Steve Bruce, and while I know that plenty think otherwise, for me he’s the man for our club at this present moment. This is the time that really matters, this pre-season. Some may bemoan the quality of football, but if we go up on the back of a collection 1-0’s who’s going to really care? If we struggle like we did at the turn of the year, then pressure will of course build, and I don’t think Dr Tony Xia will mess around too much. I think Bruce is the right man though, and I do think we’ll get promoted this season (famous last words).
This brings us nicely onto our playing squad, and again, I don’t think we need to change too much. Goalkeeper needs addressing, especially with some Premier League clubs linked to Johnstone. Defensively we looked quite solid when Taylor came in. If we do get a crazy bid for Amavi, I’d certainly take it. It’s midfield that we seem to have problems. The manager can’t seem to come up with a set system to get the best out of our players, and with the players we have, we should be bossing the majority of games. This is why I’m hoping a full pre-season can get the best out of Lansbury, Hourihane et al.
I’d expect about 3 or 4 incomings, and maybe slightly more going out, but knowing Villa, we may have double figures for each. So let’s see what kind of summer awaits us. Will it be the typical Villa madness? Or will things be a bit calmer. Stay tuned.
