Twitter can be annoying, but it’s also pretty good for finding out about players potentially making a move to Aston Villa. Hull’s Ahmed Elmohamady is the latest who looks like he’s coming in, following widespread reports we’ve met the release clause in his contract (rumoured to be £1m).

In the list of signings Bruce was always likely to make, this would be right up there. He’s played for our manager at both Sunderland, and Hull, and that for me bodes well. You’ll see in the twitter comments underneath, that the majority of Hull fans seem pretty happy he’s gone, but I’m more than willing to give Bruce the benefit of the doubt. This is a man who knows how to get out of this division, and most importantly, knows the type of players that can help in that aim.

A number of Hull fans seem annoyed he’s leaving for so little, and as a club that has also often been burned in the transfer market, I can relate with that. We needed more depth on the right side of the pitch, you only have to look at how narrow we were in the defeat to Shrewsbury on the weekend. This might mean that Hutton may leave, but with Bree and De Laet hopefully available soon, we’re pretty well stocked.

At the end of the day, we’re on more of a budget due to FFP, and for £1m, even if the signing is a disaster, it’s not the end of the world. I’ve said many-a-time that this is the season to judge Bruce on, and in signing someone he knows very well, hopefully he can continue his trend of getting promotion out of this division.
